Chapter 1: Section 3: Page 24: Line 60 (345)

Randolph tugged the brim of his hat lower, looked swiftly up and down the littered and shadowy street, and sidled in the entrance.

That was an abrupt change from a boy's adventure novel to a noir detective thriller. What's with all the cloak-and-dagger  nonsense? Randolph isn't the detective; he's just heading to the office of one!

Unless he is a detective? Detective Angel! Hmm, why isn't that a show on network television? I suppose all the shows about angels were written in the 80s and 90s. I bet Detective Angel was the working title of Highway to Heaven.

I just read the IMDB synopsis of Touched by an Angel and it has to be satire, right? "Monica (Roma Downey), Tess (Della Reese), and Andrew (John Dye) are a trio of angels sent to Earth to tell depressed and troubled people that God loves them and hasn't forgotten them." That's the premise of the show?! Three angels show up and are all, "Look, life sucks and there are tons of people who will take advantage of you. You'll be forced into poverty by a racist, misogynist system built to keep poor people poor and sick people sick. Sure, all the people in government virtue-signaling their love of God and Jesus and The Bible could choose to tax the rich more so that they can set up systems to help the mentally ill, the poor, the wretched, the weak . . . anybody that needs help. But then they'd have to tax wealthy people who provide the money for their re-election campaigns and those people won't want to provide that money if they do that. So you see the problem. Anyway, remember, God loves you but he's going to continue to sit this existence out. Hopefully the knowledge of his love for you, shown through no actions whatsoever, will bolster your confidence and get you back on track! Ta ta! Good luck! You'll fucking need it!"

Oh, um, if you're confused by my digression into angels, it's because I think Randolph St. Cosmo is probably an angel.
